AWWW, the poor neglected BLOG!

It's been so long since I last posted, must do better!....

Well you'd have thought what with Christmas and all that the hard working GAL volunteers would have gotten a break, no such luck, seems homeless hounds don't know what Christmas is!

So what has been happening in GAL land? Well I guess the first thing to say is we've kicked off 2005 at full speed with 6 dogs already off to their new homes in fact since our AGM on October 30th we've managed to re-home 41 dogs in total, if we keep this Dave reckons he'll reach his target of re-homing 200 dogs by the next AGM in October 2005!

I've already mentioned pups in a previous post, I guess Christmas just wouldn't be the same with a couple of little ankle biters to re-home, this festive season we've seen 5 Lurcher pups and 2 Greyhound pups go to their new homes but we ain't finished yet as we still have available 2 more lurcher pups and 1 Greyhound pup.

Talking of pups, we were also asked to rehome a young Greyhound called Lulu, Lulu was actually the mum of the 3 greyhound pups we got in just before Christmas, if you check out the homeless hounds page you'll see the lovely Lulu in a quiet moment sitting beside one of her pups, Douglas (Douglas is the remaining Greyhound pup still looking for a home) ain't he the spit image of his mum? Dave tells me it took him 2 hours to take the picture (so please no-one mention it's slightly out of focus!!).

Still on the dog front we've had a small 'influx' of 'golden oldies' recently, Sandy, a 13 year old Greyhound went to his new home last month after spending his entire life in kennels, he's loving his home comforts so much that his new mum actually has difficulty getting him outside for his walk. When he sees his lead being produced the poor chap scampers off to his bed and tries to hide! We still have a few old timers looking for new homes, Suzie is a 9 year old Greyhound, currently in a GAL foster home after her owner passed away and Dash is an 11 year old Lurcher boy who we really hope to find a new home for soon with his companion for the last 7 years, Abby, a 7 year old Lurcher.

On the dog front in general we're still bursting at the seams, although the numbers have reduced slightly recently we still have 62 dogs looking for new homes.

Switching to events now, we've still to finalize our calendar for 2005, we're hoping to get it all sorted out pretty soon, a new feature this year is going to be our monthly dog walks. We've decided to organize these thinking it'll be an excellent opportunity for current owners to meet up and chat whilst giving potential new owners the chance to meet some hounds and their owners. The plan is for the walks to take place on the first Sunday of the month in Strathclyde Park in Glasgow, we're hoping for the first walks to start in February so watch this space (and the events page) for more information!!

OK, I promise to post more news later!
